Blue

Blue is real! Blue is 100% perfect! These are statements that I feel are fairly accurate. Blue came from my Writer’s Digest course under the watchful eye of Ms. Marian Blue. The title was directly pulled from her name, as I thought it’d be clever to use it in the capacity that I did so that it would forever establish the fact that she had a hand in it. Blue is perfect, or as close as I will ever get. It was created over the course of six months, going back and forth from LaGrange, Ohio to Seattle, Washington every few weeks where everything I’d come up with was ripped apart and scrutinized and mailed back to me and then re-written.
The story itself really intrigues me, getting away with the crime only to get stymied during the getaway.
Each revision went to Marian with a different trucking line – I still wonder if she caught that as I did it on purpose… I like to throw things in to see if people are paying attention every once in awhile. I also remember us having a discussion about whether a yam was a sweet potato – she maintained they were different, even saying she wasn’t sure of what a yam was…
But again, this an authentic piece, completely edited and almost perfect. My last assignment with Writer’s Digest was to try and sell it – which I did. I picked out four potential publishers (read – magazines) and got packets ready, but I never mailed them. I wanted this to stick with me… if it is perfect, I wanted it to be my perfection, call me greedy.
